Be a Nerd at THE MUSEUM March 13

For one night only, be a big kid and come to THE MUSEUM in downtown Kitchener to play with all the cool toys!

The water table, Plasma Cars, the Star Lab and other super cool stuff that we would normally have to push little children over to play with will be ALL FOR US!

The event is from 6pm-9pm and then we can hit the pub if you like. Show up whenever you like during that time and just look for your friendly neighbourhood Nerd Nite hosts Charlotte, Ryan, and Eric!

This is a Pay what you can event (proceeds go to fund the Museum’s awesome programs) and there will be a cash bar courtesy of Imbibe.

It’s that time again! NERD NITE EPISODE 8 IS UPON US Wednesday November 21 at the Rum Runner Pub in Kitchener!

7:30pm start!!!

Join us for a double whammy of physics presentations then everything you need to know about the Platypus.

Topic: A blending of relativity and quantum behavior from a geographer’s perspective.
Speaker: Alexander “Sandy” Hunter has a degree Environmental Studies in Geography and is an active citizen scientist.

Topic: What the LHC can tell us about neutron stars and the early universe.
Speaker: Nikolay Hristov is an upper year undergraduate physics major who did a research project on quark gluon plasma, the stuff that probably makes up the cores of neutron stars and the early universe, and an important project for the LHC at CERN and the RHIC in Brookhaven.

Topic: The Platypus – friend, foe or wtf?
Speaker: Your friendly neighbourhood Nerd Nite boss Charlotte Armstrong will again be jumping on stage to talk about yet another strange animal.

Followed by TOTALLY AWESOME NERD TRIVIA!

Join your fellow nerds for a special halloween version of Nerd Nite at the Rum Runner Pub (1 King St. Kitchener)

Learn about bats, the who’s, why’s, and wtf’s of bloodletting, and other scary stuff tba! 3 twenty-ish minute presentations and then social time so that you can get to know your fellow nerds better!

4 PRESENTATIONS!!! ARE YOU NERD ENOUGH TO HANDLE IT?

Robbie Henderson is a PhD candidate that the University of Waterloo Astronomy department and he is the coordinator of the Gustav Bakos Observatory. Robbie will be telling us about the biggest astronomical event of our lifetime: the Venus Transit happening on June 5th along with details of the lecture and event happening at the University of Waterloo from 5pm until sundown (yes Nerd Nite will be there to represent!). We will have solar viewers available for purchase by our Nerd Nite audience. Use responsibly people! Remember, the sun seeks to destroy us all! 🙂

Dr. Shohini Ghose, Director of the Women in Science Centre at Wilfrid Laurier University and world renown physicist will be doing a mind blowing presentation on QUANTUM CHAOS!!! (insert echo)
Based on a true story, for the first time ever on screen, watch the chaotic dance of cold atoms!

Alex Bencz is a Mechatronics Engineer but when Alex isn’t making robots do his bidding, he is an avid nature enthusiast and will be enlightening us about the fascinating life of SNAILS. Yes, if you thought you knew everything about these creatures, think again. Not only are they adorable, they are much more interesting than you think. Warning: this presentation may contain snail pornographic images. Any snails in attendance must be +18 years old and show id.

There is much more to Batman than most people know…and Jenn Emes will be here to educate us about the Dark Knight with some cool and interesting facts only the hard care Batfans know.
Jenn has a Degree in Philosophy and Classical Civilizations – specializing in argumentation and critical thinking and is a sci-fi and gamer geek but most importantly, she celebrates her lifelong obsession with Batman every day, as everyone should.

The latest Nerd Nite magazine will be available as well as Nerd Nite KW June calendars showing nerd events for the next month in Kitchener and Waterloo.
